The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow alert for rain, valid until 9pm today (August 22), in parts of the country, including Al Ain, which experienced heavy rainfall on Friday.

The alert warns of the possibility of convective cloud formation associated with rainfall. Residents have also been cautioned about fresh to strong winds that could stir up dust and sand, potentially reducing horizontal visibility.

Take a look at the areas covered by the yellow weather alerts.

Weather Forecast Today

According to the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the weather will be fair to partly cloudy today, with convective clouds likely to develop over eastern and southern parts of the country by the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to rise gradually, reaching highs of 46°C in Abu Dhabi and 44°C in Dubai and Sharjah. Overnight lows in the three emirates will be around 33°C.

Humidity is expected to increase overnight and on Sunday morning, particularly over some coastal areas.

Humidity levels are forecast to range between 15 and 65 per cent in Abu Dhabi, 20 and 60 per cent in Dubai, and 15 and 55 per cent in Sharjah.

Winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast to northeast and becoming fresh at times, with speeds reaching up to 50kmph.

Heavy Rain on Friday

On August 21, parts of Abu Dhabi experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Trees and road signs were seen shaking as motorists navigated waterlogged streets.

The unstable weather also prompted precautionary measures across the capital. Abu Dhabi City Municipality temporarily closed parks, recreational facilities and affiliated beaches and suspended events until further notice. Al Ain City Municipality also announced the temporary closure of its parks.

Al Ain later confirmed that its parks had reopened, while Abu Dhabi announced the reopening of its parks, recreational facilities and affiliated beaches.

The municipality said the precautionary measures were taken to protect residents and ensure public safety amid fluctuating weather conditions and heavy rainfall in several parts of Abu Dhabi.
