UAE Schools Reopen: Stay Accident-Free on the First Day and Get Traffic Points Removed

Date:

Parents and Drivers Reminded of School Zone Rules and Hefty UAE Traffic Fines.

As schools reopen across the UAE, Dubai Police is calling on motorists and parents to help make the first day accident-free by obeying traffic rules and exercising extra caution around busy school zones.

As part of the campaign, eligible motorists who meet the specified conditions can have four traffic points removed from their driving records.

The reminder comes as roads are expected to see increased traffic during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups, with more school buses, pedestrians and vehicles sharing the roads.

Dubai Police Calls for Accident-Free Roads

Dubai Police has urged motorists to support the Ministry of Interior’s annual Accident-Free Day campaign by following traffic regulations and pledging to drive safely.

Motorists can take part in the community initiative by scanning the QR code and signing the safety pledge.

The Ministry of Interior initiative, organised through the Federal Traffic Council in coordination with police forces across the UAE, aims to raise road safety awareness and encourage motorists to comply with traffic laws and regulations.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and Head of the Accident-Free Day initiative, urged parents and motorists to exercise extra caution as schools reopen.

Key Safety Reminders for Motorists

Drivers are advised to:

  • Obey speed limits in school zones.
  • Give priority to pedestrians at designated crossings.
  • Stop when a school bus activates its stop sign.
  • Avoid using mobile phones while driving.
  • Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
  • Remain in designated lanes.
  • Use designated drop-off and pick-up areas.
  • Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy before starting the journey.

UAE School Traffic Fines Motorists Should Know

School bus violation — Dh1,000 + 10 black points

Drivers must stop when a school bus displays its stop sign and are prohibited from overtaking the bus while the sign is activated.

Failing to give way to pedestrians — Dh500 + 6 black points

Motorists must give priority to pedestrians at designated crossings, particularly in areas surrounding schools.

Using a mobile phone while driving — Dh800 + 4 black points

Drivers must not use or handle their mobile phones while driving, including when traffic is moving slowly or during school drop-off queues.

Incorrect parking — Dh200

Motorists should use designated parking and drop-off areas and avoid blocking school entrances, pedestrian crossings or other vehicles.

Speeding — Fines Up to Dh3,000

Speeding penalties vary depending on how much a driver exceeds the applicable speed limit. Serious violations may also result in black points and vehicle impoundment.

  • Stopping in the Middle of the Road

Parents should use designated drop-off areas instead of stopping in traffic lanes. Depending on the circumstances and nature of the violation, motorists may face fines and black points.

Make August 31 Accident-Free

With school traffic expected to increase, Dubai Police is urging motorists to remain patient and vigilant, particularly around school buses, pedestrian crossings and drop-off zones.

The broader goal of the campaign is to encourage motorists to turn the safe-driving practices promoted on August 31 into everyday habits.

Drive safely, follow traffic rules and help make the new school year accident-free.
