Combating covid-19: Tips to have safe and happy Eid in UAE

The UAE government has urged residents to observe a socially-distanced Eid Al Adha this year. Mosques across the country will not host Eid prayers and the faithful have been asked to offer them at home.

The Eid break is from Thursday, July 30, to Sunday, August 2, and residents have been asked to avoid gatherings so they stay safe from Covid-19.

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has issued a set of guidelines for residents so they can celebrate the Islamic festival safely.

>Eid prayers must be offered at home

>Avoid family gatherings

>Avoid visiting pregnant women, the elderly, people with chronic diseases and children

>Don’t give gifts and money to children and use electronic means instead

>Use apps for your animal sacrifice needs

>Stay home if you have fever or respiratory symptoms

>Maintain a 2-metre distance from one another and wear face masks

Going to salons

>Wear your face mask properly

>Avoid touching others and shaking hands

>Refuse the service if you notice that the staff has any Covid-19 symptoms and inform the manager

>Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes; and keep your hands clean

>It is best to use your own grooming tools for shaving, haircutting and manicures. If not available, make sure the tools used are sterilised

Eating out

>Ensure social distancing as you will need to remove your masks while eating

>Sanitise or wash your hands before and after eating

>Avoid raw foods

>Don’t share food or drinks with others on the table

>Avoid eating with your hands and use single-use cutlery

Mall crawling

>Maintain physical distancing

>Sanitise your hands after touching surfaces

>Wash your hands regularly

>Avoid paying by cash and use your bank cards or smart pay instead

Eating healthy

>Don’t overindulge in sweets and heavy meat dishes

>Chew the food slowly to ensure good digestion

>Avoid overeating and abstain from fatty food and fizzy drinks

>Stick to healthy homemade food

>Beef and lamb meat take long to digest. If you must have them, then eat them in moderation

>Avoid fried food or meals that are high in fat and sugar

>Have fresh fruits, veggies and whole grain crackers instead.

>Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily

>Exercise or go for a walk to help aid digestion
