Abu Dhabi police have issued a fresh warning of legal action and stiff penalties to violators of precautionary measures implemented by the emirate to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Violating restrictions related to public and private gatherings, meetings and celebrations will invite a fine of Dh10,000 for those organising such gatherings – and a fine of Dh5,000 for each of the participants attending them.
The authority further emphasised the need for everyone to commit to social distancing – and called on them to stay away from family gatherings to avoid the spread of the infection, especially during the four-day Eid Al Adha holiday that begins tomorrow.
Members of the public have also been asked to cooperate with authorities by reporting any gatherings or violations of the instructions issued.
They can do this by calling the Aman service on 8002626, texting 2828 or emailing aman@adpolice.gov.ae.
On Tuesday, Dr Omar Al Hammadi, the official spokesperson for the UAE government, also issued a warning when he announced that 47 members of five families had contracted the virus after they hosted gatherings in the UAE.
They had failed to adhere to precautionary measures such as wearing masks and maintaining physical distance.
In light of the upcoming Eid Al Adha break, the official advised residents to avoid family visits during the occasion and use electronic means to wish each other instead.
