Energy-efficient LED technology installed in place of over 4,000 conventional lamps.

Fujairah: Fujairah has installed approximately 24,500 smart LED streetlights along 700 kilometres of roads since launching its smart lighting programme in 2017, enhancing road safety, reducing energy consumption and supporting the emirate’s ongoing urban growth.
According to Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, Director-General of Fujairah Municipality, the project, which continued through the end of the second quarter of this year, reflects the emirate’s rapid urban development and its commitment to building a more sustainable, efficient and technologically advanced infrastructure network.
Al Afkham said the initiative was launched under the directives and close supervision of Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the emirate’s position as a modern, sustainable and future-ready city.
The project has delivered smart street lighting coverage across approximately 700 kilometres of roads in Fujairah City and Dibba Al Fujairah, enhancing road safety while supporting the emirate’s continued urban development and population growth.
As part of the initiative, more than 4,000 conventional sodium-vapour lamps were replaced with energy-efficient LED units, significantly reducing electricity consumption and lowering operating and maintenance costs. The upgrade has also improved overall network efficiency and the quality of road illumination across the emirate.
Al Afkham said Fujairah Municipality, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Agriculture, continues to implement strategic infrastructure projects designed to enhance quality of life, improve public services and strengthen the emirate’s position among leading smart and sustainable cities.
He described the smart street lighting programme as one of the municipality’s flagship initiatives, noting that it has been rolled out in successive phases that have modernised Fujairah’s public lighting network in line with international standards for sustainability, energy efficiency and smart-city development.
The project also supports the municipality’s broader goal of developing smart, sustainable infrastructure that aligns with the UAE’s clean-energy agenda and long-term climate objectives.
According to Al Afkham, the initiative contributes to lower carbon emissions, more efficient use of resources and reinforces the municipality’s commitment to adopting global best practices in infrastructure and asset management.
