The necessary procedures have been completed to implement the presidential pardon granted to Abdul Rahman Yusuf Al Qaradawi.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a presidential pardon for Abdul Rahman Yusuf Al Qaradawi.
Al Qaradawi was convicted by the Cybercrimes Department of the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal on August 27.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined Dh200,000 after being convicted of charges related to engaging in activities aimed at stirring unrest and undermining public security.
Authorities have completed the necessary procedures to implement the presidential pardon.
Last year, the UAE took custody of Al Qaradawi from Lebanese authorities after a provisional arrest warrant was issued against him by the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers’ Council’s Criminal Investigation and Data Bureau.
The extradition followed a formal request submitted by the UAE to Lebanon, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity and the relevant domestic laws and regulations of both countries.
