Etihad Rail construction prompts temporary overnight closure of key Dubai–Sharjah exit on Emirates Road

Alternative routes announced for motorists affected by overnight exit closure near Maliha Street.

Dubai: Drivers heading from Dubai to Sharjah are being warned of a series of overnight road closures over the coming 10 days due to ongoing construction works related to the Etihad Rail network.

According to an advisory issued by the Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah (RTA Sharjah), the single-lane exit from Dubai towards Sharjah will be closed daily between 1am and 6am from Saturday, June 13, until Monday, June 22, 2026.

The authority said the five-hour closure will be enforced each night throughout the 10-day period. The affected section is located on Emirates Road, near the Maliha Street interchange and Sharjah Mosque, where work on the Etihad Rail infrastructure project is currently under way.

Authorities have urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and follow the designated traffic signs and diversion routes during the closure period.

“As part of the ongoing Etihad Rail infrastructure works, the exit towards Sharjah from Dubai will be closed daily between 1:00am and 6:00am, from Saturday, 13 June until Monday, 22 June,” the advisory stated.

Officials said the temporary closure is necessary to facilitate construction activities and minimise disruption while work progresses on the rail infrastructure project.
