Sharjah has announced traffic diversions for the Al Taawun Tunnel project starting June 13.

Date:

The partial closure of Al Taawun Street is intended to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.

Sharjah has announced that motorists travelling between Sharjah and Dubai will have to follow new traffic diversions starting Saturday, June 13, as the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) begins a temporary partial closure of Al Taawun Street for the Al Taawun Tunnel Development Project.

The authority said the closure and diversions are required to support construction works at the existing Al Taawun roundabout, with the project aimed at improving the efficiency of Sharjah’s road network and easing traffic flow across the emirate.

As part of the approved traffic management plan, vehicles heading towards Dubai and Al Nahda Bridge will be diverted via Al Corniche Street.

Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Al Nahda Bridge towards Sharjah will be redirected to the newly developed Al Taawun Street, according to the alternative routes approved by the authority.

The traffic diversion plan will take effect on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

SRTA has urged motorists to adhere to the temporary traffic arrangements, follow directional signage, and use the designated alternative routes throughout the construction period.

The authority also called on road users to observe traffic safety instructions to ensure their safety, maintain smooth traffic flow, and minimise delays when travelling through the area.

The Al Taawun Tunnel Development Project is part of Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to upgrade transport infrastructure, ease congestion, and improve mobility for residents and visitors across the emirate.
