Saudi Arabia Announces Higher Electricity, Water and Sewage Tariffs Starting January 2027

Date:

King Salman Announces Financial Relief Measures, Including SR500 Increase in Monthly Allowances.

Dubai: Saudi Arabia has announced plans to increase electricity, water and sewage tariffs from January 1, 2027, alongside a series of royal directives aimed at providing financial assistance to citizens affected by the higher utility charges.

The support package includes a SR500 ($133) increase in monthly allowances for eligible groups of employees, retirees and social security recipients. Additional measures are also planned to improve the salaries of Saudi nationals employed in the private sector.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), King Salman bin Abdulaziz ordered the introduction of financial relief initiatives to reduce the impact of the revised electricity and water tariffs on citizens.

The royal directives were issued following recommendations presented by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with the measures designed to help eligible households manage the additional financial burden.

The announcement follows the release of revised tariff details by the Saudi energy company and the National Water Company, with the new rates scheduled to come into effect at the start of 2027.

The financial assistance initiatives are intended to cushion eligible citizens against rising electricity and water expenses, while separate programmes will focus on strengthening wage levels and improving financial support for Saudi workers in the private sector.
