Saudi Arabia on Alert as Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Flash Floods Are Forecast Through Friday

Saudi Civil Defence Urges Caution as Heavy Rain, Hailstorms and Powerful Winds Are Expected Across the Kingdom.

Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defence has issued a public safety advisory, urging residents to remain cautious as widespread thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding are expected to affect several parts of the Kingdom through Friday.

The authority advised residents to stay in secure locations, avoid valleys and flood-prone areas, and never attempt to swim in or cross floodwaters during periods of severe weather.

It also emphasised the need to follow official weather updates, emergency alerts and safety guidelines shared through traditional news outlets and social media channels.

According to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), the Mecca region is likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, raising concerns about possible flash floods and hailstorms. Thunderstorms could also produce powerful downdraft winds, stirring up dust and significantly reducing visibility in affected areas.

Similar unstable weather conditions are anticipated across Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, Medina, Hail, Qassim, Tabuk, Al Jouf, the Northern Borders and the Eastern Province.

The NCM cautioned that intense rainfall in these regions could trigger sudden flooding, while hail and strong winds associated with thunderstorm activity may create additional hazards.

Dust carried by powerful downdraft winds could also affect visibility, particularly in exposed areas and along roads.

Authorities have urged the public to remain alert, monitor official forecasts and strictly follow Civil Defence safety instructions until weather conditions improve.
