Work advances on Saudi Arabia’s 1km tower set to overtake Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest building.
Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower has reached a height of 430 metres, marking a significant milestone in its construction as the project moves closer to becoming the world’s tallest skyscraper.
The structure has now reached more than 40% of its planned height of over 1,000 metres, according to an update shared by Saudi investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal after visiting the construction site.
Prince Alwaleed visited the construction site, meeting the teams involved in the project and reviewing the latest progress. The visit provided one of the strongest public signs that work on the tower is advancing after years of delays.
“Praise be to God, work is continuing, and we will complete the world’s tallest tower,” he said.
Construction gathers pace after restart
Construction on Jeddah Tower began in 2013 but was halted in 2018 following financial and contractor-related challenges.
Work resumed in 2025, with construction teams now making steady progress on the landmark mixed-use development and continuing the addition of new floors.
The latest update puts the tower’s height at 430 metres, with the completed structure expected to exceed one kilometre. Once finished, Jeddah Tower is set to overtake Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and become the first building in the world to surpass the 1,000-metre milestone.
What will Jeddah Tower include?
The landmark skyscraper is planned to feature a mix of luxury residences, a high-end hotel, premium office spaces, and one of the world’s highest observation decks, offering panoramic views from a record-breaking height.
Jeddah Tower will serve as the centrepiece of Jeddah Economic City, a 57-million-square-foot development designed to advance Saudi Arabia’s ambitions in business, urban growth, and luxury tourism.
The project is being developed by Jeddah Economic Company, a firm backed by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal’s Kingdom Holding Company, as part of the Kingdom’s broader efforts to create world-class destinations and attract global investment.
Project partners and construction progress
Jeddah Economic Company is working with leading international firms including Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture, Thornton Tomasetti, Langan International, and Saudi Binladin Group on the landmark development.
Thornton Tomasetti is responsible for structural design services, while the broader project team includes Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, RWDI, and Dar, contributing expertise across engineering, environmental services, and design.
Tower set to overtake Burj Khalifa
With a planned final height exceeding 1,000 metres, Jeddah Tower is expected to surpass Dubai’s 828-metre Burj Khalifa and claim the title of the world’s tallest building.
The latest construction milestone follows Prince Alwaleed bin Talal’s visit to the site, where he reviewed progress and praised the efforts of the teams working on the project.
Current project updates indicate that Jeddah Tower could be completed by around 2028, although the final delivery date will depend on construction progress.
