Dubai-Sharjah commute: E11 and E311 see heavy delays on Thursday morning

Date:

Dubai-Sharjah commute slows as E11 and E311 see heavy morning congestion.

Dubai: Motorists travelling between Sharjah and Dubai faced heavy congestion on several key routes on Thursday morning, August 20, with E11 and E311 among the busiest roads during the rush hour.

Google Maps traffic data showed a substantial queue along E11, or Al Ittihad Road, between Sharjah and Dubai. A long stretch from around Al Taawun and Sahara Centre towards Al Nahda was marked dark red, indicating particularly slow-moving traffic for motorists heading into Dubai.

Congestion remains heavy around the Al Nahda interchange, with red sections also visible on parts of D97 and connecting roads towards Al Qusais. However, several nearby streets in Al Nahda and Al Qusais are still largely clear, offering local motorists potential alternatives depending on their destination.

Drivers using E311, or Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, are also facing significant delays. Traffic monitoring shows extended congestion through Sharjah’s industrial areas and Muwaileh, with particularly slow-moving sections around Industrial Areas 11 and 15.

Traffic improves after some junctions, but motorists joining E311 should still expect stop-start conditions.

Heavy congestion on E11 and E311 has been a recurring issue this month, with recent monitoring also showing significant delays on E311 through Sharjah Industrial Area and heavy traffic on E11 around Al Khan, Sahara Centre and Madina Mall.

Elsewhere in Sharjah, traffic conditions are considerably lighter. E88, or Al Dhaid Road, around the Ruler’s Office and Sharjah Library is largely clear, with only brief red and amber patches near some junctions. Roads around Al Fayha and Kuwait Square are also mostly flowing normally, although isolated queues are visible near the roundabout.

Maps also show shorter bottlenecks around Al Mahatta and on several local roads through the industrial areas. Motorists should note that a temporary diversion between Industrial Areas 12 and 13 remains in place until August 30 for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.

Weather is unlikely to be a major factor behind Thursday morning’s congestion. The National Centre of Meteorology is forecasting fair to partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures expected to ease and Dubai reaching around 39°C.

For commuters travelling from Sharjah into Dubai, the main trouble spots this morning are E11 around Al Taawun, Sahara Centre and Al Nahda, and E311 through the industrial areas. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and check live navigation updates before setting out.
