Saudi Arabia enters autumn on September 1 as temperatures gradually moderate

Date:

Saudi Arabia enters autumn in September, but heat remains as the month ranks fourth-hottest.

Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s meteorological summer is drawing to a close, with autumn set to begin on September 1, bringing a transitional period marked by fluctuating weather and a gradual easing of temperatures, according to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM).

Despite the seasonal shift, September has historically been the Kingdom’s fourth-hottest month based on average temperatures, according to NCM climate data.

September is typically Saudi Arabia’s driest month, with average rainfall of around 1.64mm, according to NCM spokesperson Hussain Al Qahtani.

The month also marks a gradual transition from the Kingdom’s intense summer heat to more moderate conditions in the months ahead, with temperatures and weather patterns expected to change progressively rather than abruptly.

Hot weather is expected to persist in parts of Saudi Arabia, with the NCM forecasting high maximum temperatures across parts of the Eastern Province and Riyadh. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are also expected in parts of Jazan, Asir and Al Baha.

Winds strong enough to stir up dust and sand are forecast across parts of the Eastern Province, Riyadh, Najran, the Northern Borders, Hail, Qassim, Medina and Mecca.

The unsettled weather highlights the shifting conditions as Saudi Arabia approaches the end of the meteorological summer and enters its autumn transition.
