Philippine Consulate in Dubai launches life-saving skills training to boost community preparedness

Initiative aims to equip the community with skills to respond effectively to medical emergencies and disasters.

Dubai: The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai is strengthening emergency preparedness efforts among overseas Filipinos through a new life-saving skills training initiative designed to provide community members with practical skills to respond effectively during medical emergencies.

In partnership with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Dubai and Hayat Institute, the consulate will conduct the first session of “Agap: Dubai Heart Safe City Certification” on July 10 at 1.30pm at the MWO office in Al Twar 4, Dubai.

The initiative coincides with the Philippines’ National Disaster Resilience Month and is part of the consulate’s Pasiklab Pinoy campaign, which highlights Filipino excellence while promoting emergency preparedness and fostering stronger community connections.

Culture of readiness

In a Facebook post, the consulate explained that the programme’s name comes from the Filipino word “Agap,” drawing inspiration from “maagap,” which means being alert, proactive, and prepared to respond before a situation escalates.

The consulate said the concept reflects a deeply rooted Filipino culture of care, where resilience is demonstrated through practical service, compassion, and a shared commitment to protecting one another during times of need.

The consulate further highlighted that disaster resilience starts with individuals who are equipped with the confidence and skills needed to respond effectively during emergencies.

Practical life-saving skills

Participants will receive hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the correct use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and the ASEFNI “Save Me” application, which is designed to support emergency response efforts.

According to the consulate, these essential life-saving skills can play a crucial role during emergencies at homes, workplaces, and public areas while waiting for professional medical assistance to arrive.

Participants who successfully complete the programme will also have the opportunity to receive certification under Dubai’s Heart Safe City framework, earning recognised emergency response credentials while helping build safer and more prepared communities across the emirate.

More sessions planned

The consulate said the Agap programme will continue throughout July, with additional training sessions planned for members of the Filipino community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

“The public is warmly invited to participate in this timely and meaningful initiative, which reflects the Filipino community’s shared commitment to preparedness, mutual care, and resilience,” the consulate said.
