Dubai Exempts Senior Citizens and People of Determination from Pre-Booked Vehicle Inspection Requirement.
Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has identified five categories of customers and services that are exempt from the requirement to book vehicle inspections in advance, offering added flexibility for motorists while maintaining the appointment-based system across the emirate’s vehicle testing centres.
The exemptions form part of the RTA’s vehicle inspection framework, which uses advance bookings to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waiting times and streamline customer flow across Dubai’s network of approved testing facilities.
According to guidelines reported by Emarat Al Youm, the exempt categories include senior citizens and people of determination, vehicles undergoing repeat inspections after failing a previous technical test, vehicles being inspected for export or transfer purposes without registration plates, inspections required for vehicle sale transactions, and inspections carried out to verify or confirm vehicle data.
The RTA said its Licensing Agency, in coordination with approved technical inspection centres, will continue to communicate booking procedures and clarify the services and customer groups eligible to access inspections without prior appointments. The authority added that these measures are aimed at improving transparency and making information more accessible for motorists.
While advance booking remains the preferred option, customers may still opt to undergo technical vehicle inspections without a prior appointment by paying an additional service fee.
The clarification comes as Dubai continues to expand and modernise its vehicle testing and licensing network in response to population growth, urban development and rising demand for transport services.
Earlier, the RTA opened opportunities for the licensing of additional vehicle testing and registration centres in Deira, Bur Dubai and Mohammed Bin Rashid City, enabling investors and existing operators to establish new facilities and branches subject to regulatory compliance.
The expansion aims to increase inspection capacity, bring services closer to residents, and support the emirate’s ongoing economic and urban growth. It also reflects the authority’s efforts to strengthen private sector participation in service delivery in line with international best practices.
The RTA has further enhanced accessibility by introducing Sunday vehicle inspection services across nine centres in Dubai, providing motorists with greater flexibility and helping to reduce congestion at testing facilities during the working week.
Dubai currently has 29 approved vehicle testing and licensing centres equipped with advanced technologies, operational systems, and specialised personnel, supporting the emirate’s goal of delivering efficient, customer-focused, high-quality government services.
