Air India–Thai Airways deal strengthens international connectivity across Asia, Europe and North America.

Planning a trip to Thailand could soon become more convenient as Air India and Thai Airways International move to deepen their partnership, with a focus on expanding global connectivity and offering travellers more flight options.
The two airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening air links between India and Thailand, while also improving access to a wider range of international destinations.
Building on their existing interline arrangement, the agreement is expected to deliver a more seamless travel experience by enhancing connectivity across the carriers’ combined networks.
More travel routes ahead?
Signed on June 7, 2026, on the sidelines of the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, the Memorandum of Understanding lays the groundwork for a proposed codeshare agreement between Air India and Thai Airways International, subject to regulatory approvals.
If approved, the partnership is expected to significantly broaden travel options, allowing passengers to access a wider network of destinations through a single booking. The agreement is also expected to enhance connectivity and streamline journeys across Asia, Europe and North America, making international travel more convenient for customers of both airlines.
Wider access across global routes
Under the proposed arrangement, Air India and Thai Airways International will place their respective ‘AI’ and ‘TG’ codes on selected flights between India and Thailand, as well as on certain onward international routes.
The codeshare agreement would enable passengers to book connecting journeys more easily and gain access to a broader network of destinations through the combined operations of both airlines. By integrating portions of their route networks, the carriers aim to provide smoother transfers, greater flexibility and improved connectivity for travellers heading to destinations across Asia, Europe and North America.

Airlines highlight stronger regional ties
Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, said the partnership reflects the strengthening ties between India and Thailand across tourism, trade and business travel. He added that closer cooperation between the two carriers will enhance global connectivity and provide customers with greater travel choice and convenience.
Meanwhile, Chai Eamsiri, CEO of Thai Airways International, described the agreement as an important step toward improving regional connectivity. He said the partnership would help support economic growth, promote tourism and encourage deeper cultural exchanges between India and Thailand.
