‘Fastest man in India’: Navy officer Gurindervir sets new national record in the 100-metre sprint.

Date:

Gurindervir Singh clinched gold after completing the 100-metre race in 10.09 seconds, shaving 0.06 seconds off the previous national record, which had been set just a day earlier.

Gurindervir Singh, an officer of the Indian Navy, became the first Indian man to break the 10.10-second barrier in the men’s 100m, winning gold with a national record time of 10.09 seconds.

The Indian Navy praised his achievement at the Federation Cup in Ranchi, calling the sprinter the “fastest man in India.”

The Indian Navy also noted that Gurindervir Singh’s performance secured qualification for both the 2026 Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, praising his speed, discipline, and dedication.

Gurindervir Singh, 25, shaved 0.06 seconds off the previous national record, which had been set just a day earlier in the semifinals by Animesh Kujur.

Notably, Gurindervir Singh had briefly held the national record himself after clocking 10.17 seconds in the semifinals, before Animesh Kujur bettered it minutes later with a 10.15-second run.

However, on Saturday, Gurindervir reclaimed the record emphatically, while both sprinters secured qualification for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where they will represent India in the men’s 100m.

In another standout performance, Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi became the first Indian man to break the 45-second barrier in the 400m, winning the Federation Cup with a national record time of 44.98 seconds.

On a historic day for Indian sprinting in Ranchi, Vishal’s landmark run came shortly after Gurindervir clocked a stunning 10.09 seconds in the 100m, capping a memorable evening for Indian athletics.
