Speed Limits to Rise on Three Roads and Fall on Two, With Changes Effective in Both Directions.

Dubai: Motorists in Dubai will see revised speed limits on five major roads starting November 1, 2026, following an announcement by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Wednesday.
Under the new regulations, speed limits will be increased on three roads and reduced on two others, with the changes applying to traffic travelling in both directions.
The adjustments, introduced in coordination with Dubai Police, aim to improve traffic movement, strengthen road safety and ensure that speed limits reflect existing road conditions.
Dubai Roads Where Speed Limits Will Increase
Three major roads will have higher speed limits from November 1:
- Al Asayel Street: The speed limit will increase from 60 km/h to 80 km/h on the section between Oud Maitha Street and Al Meydan Street.
- Al Mustaqbal Street: The speed limit will rise from 60 km/h to 70 km/h between Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Meydan Street.
- Latifa bint Hamdan Street: Motorists will be permitted to travel at 70 km/h instead of 60 km/h along the stretch connecting Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
Dubai Roads Where Speed Limits Will Decrease
Meanwhile, speed limits will be lowered on two major roads:
- Al Rebat Street: The maximum speed will be reduced from 100 km/h to 90 km/h between Marrakech Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
- Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street: The speed limit will decrease from 80 km/h to 70 km/h between 2nd December Street and Khalid bin Al Waleed Street.
All five changes will take effect in both directions along the specified road sections.
Speed Cameras and Road Signs to Be Updated
The RTA confirmed that the revised speed limits were developed in cooperation with Dubai Police.
As part of the implementation process, existing speed limit signs will be replaced along the affected roads to inform motorists of the updated regulations.
Speed cameras will also be reprogrammed to correspond with the revised limits before the changes officially come into force.
Drivers are encouraged to pay attention to the new road signs and adjust their driving speeds accordingly from November 1.
RTA Conducts Technical Study to Improve Traffic Safety
According to the RTA, the changes follow an extensive engineering and technical assessment carried out over recent months in collaboration with an international consultant.
The study examined road conditions, traffic patterns and safety requirements to determine appropriate speed limits for the selected routes.
The authority said the revisions are intended to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and ensure that posted speed limits are consistent with road design and actual driving conditions.
New Speed Limits Based on Updated Dubai Road Safety Guidelines
The adjustments also follow the 2026 revisions to the technical specifications of the Dubai Speed Management Manual.
The updated guidelines incorporate international best practices aimed at balancing efficient traffic movement with the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
The RTA explained that several engineering and technical factors are considered when determining speed limits.
These include traffic volumes, road design speeds, surrounding urban development and actual vehicle speeds measured using the 85th percentile speed, a traffic engineering indicator used to assess how fast most vehicles travel under prevailing conditions.
Pedestrian movement and the presence of important facilities along roads are also taken into account.
The authority added that it regularly evaluates speed limits and traffic conditions across Dubai’s main roads as part of ongoing infrastructure development and traffic improvement initiatives.
The latest changes form part of these efforts to support safer and more efficient journeys across the emirate.
