Why Georgia is becoming a favourite summer getaway for UAE travellers with easy flights and visa-free entry

Date:

A tourism official said summer continues to be the peak season for Gulf visitors, who are attracted by Georgia’s cool mountain climate, scenic landscapes, and pleasant weather.

An increasing number of travellers from the UAE and across the Gulf are choosing Georgia as their holiday destination, with tourism officials attributing the growing popularity to easier access and the country’s wide variety of experiences.

Official figures show that Georgia welcomed 3.4 per cent more visitors from Gulf countries in 2025 compared with the previous year.

“Summer has traditionally been our peak season for visitors from the Gulf,” said Maia Omiadze, Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration. “As temperatures rise in the region, many travellers head to Georgia to enjoy its cool mountain air, lush landscapes, and comfortable weather. We are also encouraged to see tourism becoming less dependent on the summer months, with more visitors exploring Georgia throughout autumn, winter, and spring.”

Accessibility

Direct air connections from the UAE, combined with visa-free entry, have made Georgia one of the most convenient international destinations for Gulf travellers. Currently, local airlines operate around 49 flights a week between Georgia and the UAE, further strengthening travel links between the two destinations.

However, Maia noted that accessibility alone was not driving Georgia’s growing popularity among Gulf travellers.

“Today’s travellers are seeking authentic experiences, and Georgia offers remarkable variety within a relatively compact country,” she said. “In a short trip, visitors can experience the energy of a vibrant capital, take in breathtaking mountain scenery, explore UNESCO World Heritage sites, and enjoy the country’s renowned cuisine.”

She added that targeted promotional efforts across the GCC, including collaborations with airlines, travel companies, and digital marketing campaigns, have helped boost awareness of Georgia as a destination and encouraged more repeat visits.

Regional cities gain popularity

While Tbilisi continues to be the main gateway for most travellers, thanks to its mix of historic landmarks and modern culture, other cities across Georgia are also attracting growing interest from visitors.

The Black Sea resort city of Batumi has become a summer favourite, offering visitors a mix of beachside relaxation and lively urban experiences. Meanwhile, adventure seekers are increasingly heading to Georgia’s mountain regions, including Svaneti and the Greater Caucasus, for hiking and trekking opportunities. Gulf travellers are also showing growing interest in Georgia’s wellness tourism, with luxury spa retreats and therapeutic destinations such as Borjomi, Tskaltubo, and Sairme gaining popularity.

Maia added that winter tourism from the Gulf has been steadily expanding, with snow-based experiences becoming “increasingly popular among UAE travellers” who are drawn to Georgia’s scenic winter landscapes.

Georgia is home to four well-developed ski resorts: Gudauri, Bakuriani, Mestia, and Goderdzi. Gudauri has emerged as the country’s leading international ski destination, while Bakuriani remains a favourite among families.

Attracting more GCC visitors

The Georgian National Tourism Administration is continuing efforts to attract more visitors from the Gulf through strategic partnerships, digital marketing initiatives, and specialised travel events across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait.

“The GCC continues to be one of our key international markets,” Maia said. “Our goal is not only to increase visitor numbers but also to encourage longer stays, repeat trips, and exploration beyond Georgia’s most popular destinations.”

She added: “We believe Georgia offers a rare combination of authenticity, warm hospitality, safety, rich heritage, outstanding cuisine, and stunning natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for travellers from the UAE and the wider Gulf region.”
