The Day of Arafat, also known as Arafah Day, has officially been confirmed to fall on Tuesday, May 26, following the moon-sighting announcement by UAE authorities.

What is Arafat Day?

The Day of Arafat is a significant Islamic observance held on the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijjah, one day before Eid al-Adha. It marks the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, when Muslim pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat and the Plain of Arafat.

It was at this sacred site that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered one of his final sermons during the last year of his life.

For Muslims not participating in the Hajj pilgrimage, Arafat Day is regarded as a deeply significant day for fasting and spiritual reflection. While fasting on this day is not mandatory, it is highly recommended for those who are not performing Hajj.

When is Eid al-Adha 2025?

Eid Al Adha, one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar, will be observed in the UAE on Wednesday, May 27, marking the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The festival commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and coincides with the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

How long is the Eid break?

Private sector

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has announced a four-day paid holiday for all private sector employees across the UAE, running from Tuesday, May 26, to Friday, May 29, in observance of Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha.

Public sector

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced a five-day paid holiday for public sector and federal government employees, running from Monday, May 25, to Friday, May 29.

Schools

For students, teachers, and administrative staff at public schools, the holiday break will also run from Monday, May 25, to Friday, May 29.
