Motorists Advised to Follow Electronic Signs as Fog, Lane Closures and Road Hazards Affect Traffic.
Abu Dhabi: Motorists were urged to exercise caution on Friday morning as fog reduced visibility across parts of the emirate. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued red and orange weather alerts, warning that horizontal visibility could deteriorate further at times, particularly across coastal and inland areas as well as some islands.
Abu Dhabi Police advised drivers to remain cautious in foggy conditions and comply with temporary speed limits displayed on electronic signs and other traffic guidance boards.
Speed limits return to normal
Abu Dhabi authorities said speed limits on the emirate’s external roads have returned to their normal posted levels after temporary reductions were introduced because of fog and poor visibility.
However, a reduced speed limit of 80km/h remains in effect on several roads where visibility continues to be affected, requiring motorists to exercise additional caution. These include:
The 80km/h speed restriction remains in place on the following roads:
- Sheikh Salem bin Butti Road, between Zayed City and Mzairaa
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road, from Falaj Bridge to Kizad Bridge
- Umm Al Hosn Road, between Liwa and Ghiyathi
- Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road, from Al Mughira Bridge to Al Ruwais Bridge
- Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road, between Al Bahiya Bridge and Al Samha Bridge
- Ahmed Khamis Al Hamili Road, from Zayed City to Tarif
- Sheikh Salama bint Butti Road, between Zayed City and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road
- Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road, from Qurain Al Aysh to Bainunah
- Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road, between Pyramid Bridge and Qurain Al Aysh Bridge
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road, from Sa’ih Shuaib Bridge to Ajman Bridge
Motorists are urged to observe the temporary speed limits displayed on roadside signs and electronic boards, as restrictions may change depending on visibility and driving conditions.
Road closure in Al Ain
Drivers in Al Ain should also be aware of a scheduled partial road closure on Shakhbout bin Sultan Street. Two right-hand lanes will be closed from 11.45pm on Friday, September 25, until 6am on Monday, September 28.
Motorists travelling through the area are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow additional travel time and follow the diversion signs in place.
Friday morning traffic
Traffic was generally flowing smoothly across Abu Dhabi’s major roads on Friday morning. However, motorists are advised to remain cautious as road conditions can change quickly, with localised congestion and reduced visibility potentially affecting some routes.
- E11: Traffic was largely clear in the direction of Dubai and Bani Yas.
- E10: Vehicles were moving smoothly around Masdar City and Zayed International Airport.
- E20/E22: Traffic conditions were generally clear, although a road incident or hazard was reported near the Al Wathba-Al Khatim junction.
- E30: Traffic was flowing steadily along Rawdat Al Rifa and Sheikh Shakhbout bin Sultan Street.
- E65: Al Hameem Road was generally clear, with no significant congestion reported.
- E75: Traffic was moving smoothly.
Motorists are advised to allow additional time for their journeys, maintain a safe following distance and avoid sudden lane changes, particularly in areas where visibility remains reduced.
