Dubai: The UAE has ample and diverse energy resources to meet its domestic demand, even in the face of regional tensions, according to Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. He emphasized that the country is well equipped to ensure energy security for both residents and businesses.

In an interview with Al Emarat TV, Al Mazrouei highlighted that the UAE’s balanced energy mix—featuring peaceful nuclear power, major solar investments, and other sources—gives it a strong advantage compared to other countries in the region.

He said the government aims to reassure citizens and residents that they are in safe hands, emphasizing its responsibility to reliably meet their energy needs.

Al Mazrouei also criticised Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, calling it an action that impacts the global economy, not just Gulf nations.

“What Iran is doing by closing the Strait of Hormuz amounts to piracy against the entire world, not only the Gulf,” he said, adding that any attempt to hold the global economy “hostage” would ultimately fail.

He stressed that the strait is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes and a key channel for global energy supplies, warning that even short disruptions could have serious consequences for energy-importing countries.

Al Mazrouei added that the UAE is working at the international level to support reopening the waterway, while also engaging in Opec+ discussions, where member countries have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining global energy supply.

However, he noted that any disruption to the Strait of Hormuz complicates these efforts and puts additional strain on global supply chains.

Al Mazrouei also commended the UAE Armed Forces, saying they have demonstrated the country’s strength and preparedness in challenging times.

He added that the UAE continues to rank among the safest countries in the world, highlighting that its robust infrastructure—developed over years through the leadership’s long-term vision—provides a solid foundation to navigate current challenges and emerge stronger.

“The infrastructure we have built over the years enables us to endure, adapt, and move forward,” he said.
