Sharjah Police warn drivers that a moment of impatience could endanger children.
Sharjah: Police have urged motorists to stop when school buses are picking up or dropping off students, warning that even a few seconds of impatience could put children’s lives in danger.
Major Saud Al Shaiba, Head of the Awareness Department at Sharjah Police, said drivers must come to a complete halt whenever a school bus extends its side “STOP” sign while students are boarding or getting off.
He stressed that overtaking a stationary school bus is a serious traffic violation and poses an immediate risk to children, who may unexpectedly cross the road from either the front or rear of the bus.
Motorists who fail to obey the stop sign can face fines and traffic black points. However, Major Al Shaiba emphasised that the consequences of a collision involving a child could be far more serious than any penalty.
Sharjah Police urged motorists to exercise patience and stay alert around school buses, emphasising that protecting children on the road is a responsibility shared by everyone.

Motorists who overtake a school bus while its “STOP” sign is activated face a Dh1,000 fine and 10 black points on their driving licence.
