In a historic season, over 900 mountaineers summited Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,849 metres.

Mount Everest’s 2026 climbing season is coming to a close after a record-breaking year that saw an unprecedented number of mountaineers reach the world’s highest peak. Nepalese officials reported that more than 900 climbers successfully summited the 8,849-metre mountain, aided by unusually favourable weather conditions and an extended summit window.
The surge in successful ascents has made 2026 one of Everest’s busiest and most remarkable seasons. Alongside the high volume of summit attempts, several climbers also achieved significant milestones, setting both personal and national records on the iconic Himalayan peak.
Officials noted that stable weather conditions allowed climbers to attempt the summit over a longer period, helping reduce congestion near the top—an issue commonly seen on Everest. The season also underscored the mountain’s enduring global appeal to adventurers.
As the climbing window closes and expeditions begin their descent, the 2026 season will be remembered for its record-setting achievements and exceptional summit success.
