Taxi driver in Dubai gets 10 years in jail for killing roommate.

The man had already died by the time the police arrived at the scene.

A cab driver in Dubai was sentenced to 10 years in jail for killing his roommate over a cleaning dispute, a court in the emirate ruled on Sunday.

The Dubai Court of First Instance found the 41-year-old Pakistani defendant guilty of stabbing the man to death at their accommodation in Al Muraqqabat. He will be deported after the completion of his jail term.

The stabbing allegedly followed a heated argument about cleaning at their shared room, public prosecution records showed.

A 33-year-old Pakistani agricultural engineer said that on the day of the incident, he woke up to the screams of the victim. “I saw the defendant holding a knife and stabbing the victim. I grabbed him and could not stop him from further stabbing the man.”

In his statement during the investigation, the witness said that when he asked the defendant why he did it, he answered, “it just happened”.

A police captain said the incident was reported from a building in Hor Al Anz around 1am. “The victim was spotted lying on his back in the bedroom with multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was already dead.”

He added that when they arrived at the crime scene, they found the defendant sitting outside the room, with an injury below his right knee.

“The crime weapon was found near the victim’s body,” the officer said.

According to the forensic report, the man died of severe internal bleeding caused by the deep stab wounds he sustained. He was not drunk or under the influence of any drugs at the time of his death.

The defendant has the right to appeal the ruling within 15 days.
