Rapid SOS response helps Dubai Police foil Deira heist, track down fleeing gang.

Dubai: Dubai Police recovered Dh10 million in stolen cash and arrested three African suspects within 10 minutes of a robbery at a currency exchange office in Deira, highlighting the force’s rapid-response capabilities and the effectiveness of its smart SOS emergency system.
The robbery took place in the early hours when three masked men stormed the ground-floor exchange office, assaulted and restrained employees, smashed surveillance cameras, and escaped with several bags containing Dh10 million in cash.According to Operations Management: The Art of Critical Notifications, Crises, and Disasters by Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, the breakthrough came when one of the employees managed to free himself and activate Dubai Police’s SOS emergency service on his mobile phone. The alert was instantly relayed to the operations room, prompting an immediate police response.
Police swiftly sealed all entry and exit points to Deira, redeployed patrols from neighbouring areas and circulated the suspects’ descriptions across the force to stop the gang from fleeing the district.

Within 10 minutes, a traffic sergeant intercepted a suspicious vehicle, arrested one of the suspects and recovered bags containing part of the stolen Dh10 million.
Dubai Police then deployed a helicopter to track down the remaining suspects. The aircrew spotted the pair hiding in an industrial yard after they abandoned bags of cash and tried to conceal themselves among cargo containers. Guided by the helicopter, ground teams swiftly moved in and arrested both suspects.
All three suspects were arrested and the full Dh10 million was recovered before the gang could hide or distribute the stolen cash.
Police said the case demonstrates the value of the SOS emergency service, which provides businesses and residents with a direct link to the operations room, allowing officers to respond immediately to critical incidents.
The operation stands out as an example of how smart emergency technology, coordinated policing and aerial surveillance can help solve major crimes quickly and ensure the full recovery of stolen assets.
