A Dh1-million grant will be provided to participants of the Dubai Date Festival following a directive from Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
According to the Dubai Media Office, the initiative recognises participants’ efforts in preserving and promoting the UAE’s national heritage.
The third edition of the Dubai Date Festival, which concluded on July 26, was held at Qalaat Al Rimal on the Dubai-Al Ain Road. The event featured 15 competitions celebrating the importance of the palm tree and recognising the people dedicated to its cultivation and preservation.
New categories were introduced at this year’s festival, which aims to reinforce the social and cultural importance of dates while bringing together farmers, families and institutions to celebrate and preserve Emirati heritage.
Fresh date distribution across Dubai
Although the Dubai Date Festival has ended, the date harvesting season continues, with fresh dates set to be collected and shared with families and communities across Dubai.
The initiative comes as the Dubai Community Development Authority (CDA) launches the second edition of its “Kharayef Al Rutab” programme.
This year, the initiative aims to distribute boxes of fresh dates to more than 5,000 families and targeted groups in partnership with national farms, with the support of 1,000 Emirati volunteers.
The programme seeks to maximise the use of locally grown agricultural produce while ensuring seasonal harvests create lasting social and humanitarian benefits.
