Open windows and visible valuables among the leading causes of car thefts.

Ras Al Khaimah Police have issued a fresh warning to motorists, urging them to stay vigilant and avoid common mistakes that are increasingly leading to vehicle thefts.
As part of an awareness campaign led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), police said most theft cases are not carefully planned but are crimes of opportunity, often caused by simple lapses in judgment.
Authorities pointed out that even slightly open windows can give thieves enough access to unlock doors or enter vehicles. Leaving engines running, even for a short time while stepping away, also gives criminals a quick chance to drive off within seconds.
Police also warned against leaving valuables such as mobile phones, laptops, handbags, or wallets in plain sight inside vehicles, noting that these items can tempt thieves to break windows and steal them.
Parking in poorly lit, isolated, or unmonitored areas was also identified as a major risk factor, as such locations give offenders the time and cover needed to carry out thefts without being noticed.
Ras Al Khaimah Police stressed that community vigilance plays a key role in preventing vehicle theft. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity, such as individuals loitering near parked cars or trying door handles, by calling 999.
Motorists are advised to lock their vehicles at all times, keep valuables out of sight, and choose secure parking areas, with police emphasising that simple precautions can greatly reduce the risk of theft.
