The playlist showcases songs that preserve Filipino stories, celebrate traditions and reflect the community’s cultural identity.

Dubai: For many Filipinos living far from home, a familiar song can instantly bring back memories of family gatherings, childhood experiences and places they hold dear.

The Filipino community in the UAE can now reconnect with those cherished memories through a curated Original Pilipino Music (OPM) playlist released by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi as part of Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) 2026.

The playlist features Filipino songs that reflect the country’s rich and diverse musical heritage, blending traditional influences with contemporary sounds. It highlights the enduring role of music in preserving Filipino culture, strengthening connections and shaping identity across generations.

More than just music

OPM has always been more than a collection of popular songs. For many Filipinos, it serves as a reflection of shared experiences, emotions and cultural traditions, creating a connection to their roots and heritage.

Through the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) 2026 initiative, the Philippine Embassy aims to deepen appreciation for Filipino music and highlight its role in preserving cultural identity, especially among Filipinos living overseas.

The playlist is available through a QR code shared by the embassy on Facebook, giving listeners across the UAE easy access to explore and enjoy Filipino music wherever they are.

Celebrating tradition through music

This year’s Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) carries the theme “Musika at Himig Natin: Tradisyon, Industriya, at Bagong Tinig” (Our Music and Melodies: Tradition, Industry, and New Voices).

The Philippine Embassy said the 2026 celebration highlights the importance of preserving traditional musical expressions, supporting the continued growth of the Filipino music industry and promoting the voices of emerging artists. The initiative aims to strengthen the cultural connections that unite Filipinos as a nation.

From timeless classics to contemporary tracks by emerging artists, OPM continues to evolve while staying deeply connected to Filipino culture and identity.

Cultural connection

For Filipinos living overseas, music often serves as a powerful link to their heritage, providing a sense of connection to home and shared traditions.

The Philippine Embassy said the celebration reflects its commitment to preserving and promoting Filipino musical heritage, ensuring that the country’s songs and stories continue to reach future generations.

“Through sustained collaboration, innovation and support for our artists, the embassy affirms Filipino music as an integral part of our national identity,” the embassy said.

As part of the celebration, members of the Filipino community in the UAE are encouraged to explore the playlist, share their favourite OPM songs and celebrate the music that continues to unite Filipinos, no matter where they are in the world.
