Over 1,100 alcohol bottles seized from pit in middle of Dubai desert.

Date:

The Dubai Police have arrested seven people and seized 1,483 bottles of alcohol in three operations during the Eid Al Fitr holidays.

Dr Adel Mohamed Al Suweidi, Director of Jebel Ali Police Station, said most of the bottles had been hidden in a pit in the middle of a desert.

Al Suweidi said in the first incident, a team of police patrols noticed three Asians extracting the bottles out of a wooden box hidden in the pit. The police caught them red-handed and seized 24 plastic packets containing 1,110 bottles.

The second incident led to the arrest of two Asian men who were transporting alcohol in their car. This came after the police got a tip-off about their illegal activities. The suspects tried to flee, but the police chased after them and effected the arrests as they seized 115 bottles of alcohol.

The third seizure was made from an industrial area during a security check. Al Suweidi added that 258 bottles of alcohol were seized from a vehicle.
