Inspired by Aryansh Sharma’s standout innings, UAE secure victory against Jersey in a high-scoring match

Date:

Aryansh’s contribution proved vital as he featured in two game-changing century stands during UAE’s pursuit of the target.

Aryansh Sharma delivered a match-winning batting performance, scoring an unbeaten century to guide the UAE to a convincing seven-wicket victory over Jersey in the opening game of their two-match 50-over series at Grainville.

The match provided valuable preparation for the UAE ahead of their upcoming Cricket World Cup League Two assignment, where they will face Scotland and Canada in a tri-series next week.

The League Two competition is part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The UAE travelled to the UK with a revamped squad as they look to turn around their recent fortunes. The team are aiming to maintain their ODI status while keeping their hopes of reaching the 2027 World Cup alive.

Jersey posted a challenging total of 315 for five from their 50 overs, with Nick Greenwood leading the innings with a century off 92 balls. The UAE bowlers faced a tough task but managed to make inroads, with Junaid Siddique, Dhruv Parashar, Mohammed Arfan, Mohammed Jawadullah and Aayan Khan each claiming a wicket.

Outstanding performance

Aryansh once again took centre stage in the chase, delivering another impressive performance after establishing himself as one of the UAE’s standout players during the T20 World Cup in India earlier this year.

The young opener remained unbeaten on 131, anchoring the innings from start to finish as the UAE successfully reached the target in 48 overs.

Aryansh played a key role in two match-defining century partnerships during the chase. He first combined with Mohammed Shahdad for a 121-run stand, with Shahdad contributing a quick 71 off 53 balls, before adding another crucial partnership with former captain Rahul Chopra, who scored 50 from 61 deliveries.

The UAE and Jersey will face each other again on Wednesday in the second and final match of their two-game series.
