‘Find My Phone’ helps Dubai expat recover stolen device; domestic worker sentenced to jail.

The phone owner alerted the police, who responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

A Dubai resident whose smartphone disappeared from his home was able to track it using modern location technology, which helped police uncover a theft involving a part-time domestic worker and a delivery rider accused of possessing stolen property.

According to court records, the Arab resident returned home to find his smartphone missing after his wife told him it could not be located inside the house. Suspecting theft, he immediately activated the ‘Find My Phone’ feature from another device and began tracking the phone’s signal.

Days later, he received an alert indicating that the phone had been switched on near a restaurant in Dubai. He went to the location and suspected that one of the delivery riders working in the area might have the device.

With the cooperation of the restaurant management, the phone owner identified a delivery worker who was using the device. When questioned, the rider claimed he had received the phone from a friend to test before purchasing it.

The phone owner then contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the phone’s origin.

Subsequent inquiries revealed that a part-time housemaid had stolen the smartphone from the victim’s home before selling it. Authorities referred the delivery rider to the Public Prosecution on charges of possessing stolen property, while the domestic worker was convicted and sentenced to jail for theft.

The case underscores how digital tracking tools are increasingly aiding victims and authorities in recovering stolen devices and tracing individuals involved in theft-related crimes.
