Emirates announces a new $5-billion engineering facility set to become one of the largest in the world.

Date:

The engineering complex is expected to be completed between 2030 and the mid-2030s and will be located at Al Maktoum International Airport.

Emirates Engineering said it will develop a new engineering facility in partnership with China Railway Construction Company, which is expected to become one of the largest such facilities in the world.

The Deputy President and CEO of Emirates Airline, Adel Al Redha, told Khaleej Times that the new complex will be nearly twice the size of the airline’s existing facilities.

The site will be capable of handling up to 28 wide-body aircraft simultaneously, supporting maintenance operations as well as conversions between passenger and freighter configurations.

“We’ll be able to paint two or three widebody aircraft simultaneously. So it will be a centre of attraction and a centre of excellence,” Al Redha said.

Emirates Airline said it will invest over $5 billion in the project, which will span around 1 million square metres. The engineering complex is expected to be completed between 2030 and the mid-2030s and will be located at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Dai Hegen signed the partnership agreement on Monday at the Dubai South headquarters, near DWC.

The Beijing-based construction firm, formerly the world’s second-largest construction company, will support development of the facility.
