Dubai’s Global Village vendors cut prices as Season 30 enters its final weeks

Date:

After reopening following a 51-day closure, Global Village vendors are offering steep discounts and special deals to attract visitors and boost end-of-season sales.

A quick walk through Global Village makes one thing clear — shoppers are always on the lookout for offers and discounts. While some vendors are promoting bulk deals, others have introduced dedicated racks featuring specially priced items.

At the Chinese Pavilion, several clothing vendors displayed signs highlighting special rates, particularly for bulk purchases. One sign read: “Three pieces for Dh100.”

Several vendors were loudly promoting their prices and inviting shoppers to browse their products. One seller, Anne, said she was offering bigger discounts to customers on the first day after reopening.

“Our brand-new designs were selling for Dh150 per piece before Global Village closed,” she said. “Now that it has reopened, we want more customers to come in and shop. So I have even offered some customers Dh100 per piece when they bought three or more items.”

Anne was among hundreds of vendors who reopened their shops at Global Village as it welcomed visitors again on Monday. The entertainment destination had shut down due to regional unrest during the US-Israel-Iran conflict. Monday’s reopening came after a 51-day closure during its landmark 30th season.

On the very first day, both tourists and residents — including families with very young children — returned in large numbers to enjoy the wide range of attractions and shopping options.

High hopes

For entrepreneur Anshad, the closure was a major challenge, as he had to ensure the safety of 400 employees, many of whom had come to the UAE specifically to work at Global Village.

“We have very high hopes that people will come in large numbers and we will be able to make the best of the remaining days of Global Village,” he said. “We are just praying that the weather stays pleasant.”

He added that he was also considering offering discounts and special rates.

“We sell authentic spices and speciality teas at the Sri Lankan Pavilion, and before the closure, we had a steady stream of customers,” he said. “Now, we will see what demand is like and consider special discounts. Usually, toward the end of the season, we do offer discounts to help boost sales.”

At the Indian Pavilion, another seller displayed jewellery items on separate stands, offering special prices ranging from Dh10 to Dh30 for earrings and necklaces.

“The reason I set up this stall is because I wanted to attract more customers to my shop in Meena Bazaar,” said the seller, who preferred not to be named. “That is also why I am offering special prices. I’m happy that Global Village has reopened. On the very first day, I got a customer who bought five sets of jewellery. I’m confident that by the end of the season, we will see good sales.”
