Dubai sets world record after distributing 9,000 free meals

Date:

The challenge was to distribute 7,500 meals in eight hours.

Beit Al Khair Society and Dubai Investment Company have jointly set a new Guinness World Record by contributing 8,997 free meals to low-income workers in just under three hours.

The function, organised at the Dubai Investment Park, was aimed at fulfilling the social responsibility towards low-income workers who play a critical role in building and developing the country.

Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, director-general of Beit Al Khair Society, said the move is also in response to the Fifty-Year Charter of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. “In the ninth article of this historic document, he called for an annual growth in humanitarian works parallel with the economic development of Dubai.”

Reviving a tradition

Pravin Patel, official adjudicator, Guinness World Records Ltd., said: “The challenge was to distribute 7,500 meals in eight hours, but the distribution team managed to give away 8,997 meals in two hours and 52 minutes.”

He added that all the meals distributed had to be fresh, healthy, nutritious and should have contributed to an eligible community in an orderly manner. All these conditions were met. “We, accordingly, grant Beit Al Khair and Dubai Investment this certificate which confirms their success in breaking the record in the UAE.”

Al Awadhi said Beit Al Khair has taken the ‘Food for All’ project to a higher level, and revived a deeply-rooted tradition in the Emirati culture: Feeding the poor.

“Beit Al Khair, with these 8,997 meals, has distributed 90,000 meals under this pioneering project after the holy month of Ramadan and up to the end of November 2019.”

Mohammed Saeed Al-Raqbani, general manager of Dubai Investments Industries, said the record shows how the private sector supports the charitable sector in adopting and implementing the principle of social responsibility, reflecting the civilised image of the country.

The performance of Beit Al Khair field team was exceptional, he added. “Their perfect organisation and record distribution have made this mission possible in cooperation with 45 volunteers from the Dubai Investment.
