AI-Powered Roadmap Aims to Reduce Crashes and Future-Proof Dubai’s Traffic Network.
Dubai: Dubai Police has introduced a new 2040 vision for its General Department of Traffic, outlining a long-term strategy to enhance road safety and prepare the emirate’s traffic network for emerging challenges.
The initiative is aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and forms part of Dubai Police’s broader efforts to strengthen security, improve public safety and community wellbeing, and promote innovation across traffic management and road services.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said the 2040 vision will provide a strategic framework to guide the department’s future projects, programmes and initiatives.
He said artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies will be central to the strategy, enabling police to detect potential risks at an early stage and take preventive measures before they escalate into major road safety concerns.
The plan will also monitor evolving traffic patterns and emerging trends, helping authorities determine key priorities and develop targeted projects to meet Dubai’s future mobility and road safety requirements.
Planning for Dubai’s roads in 2040
The vision was endorsed in the presence of senior Dubai Police officials, including Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic; Colonel Omar Khalifa Balobaida Al Suwaidi, Acting Director of the Future Foresight Centre; and Lieutenant Colonel Dr Khalid Mohammad Al Mansouri, Acting Director of the Future Readiness Department.
Colonel Al Suwaidi said the Future Foresight Centre collaborates with various Dubai Police departments and stations to develop forward-looking ideas and initiatives aimed at shaping the future of policing.
He added that the centre’s work supports Dubai Police’s efforts to keep pace with the emirate’s rapid development, while harnessing innovation and future-focused planning to contribute to sustainable, long-term growth.
Identifying risks before they emerge
Al Suwaidi said future readiness goes beyond forecasting what may happen, requiring a broader assessment of existing conditions and emerging developments.
He explained that authorities must continuously monitor new trends, identify potential risks and opportunities, and use these insights to develop strategies and initiatives for a range of possible future scenarios.
Under the 2040 vision, Dubai Police will focus on anticipating developments that could influence traffic management and road safety, while introducing proactive measures to address challenges before they arise.
The strategy will also seek to increase the involvement of young people in shaping the future of policing and security, giving the next generation a greater role in developing forward-looking solutions.
