Dubai launches free autonomous taxi rides for public in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah

Date:

Dubai’s autonomous taxis are now available for booking via Uber and Apollo Go platforms.

Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched public operations of its autonomous taxi service in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, offering residents free driverless rides as part of Dubai’s efforts to advance smart mobility solutions.

The service is being rolled out in partnership with Apollo Go and autonomous driving technology firm WeRide. Passengers can access the vehicles by booking through the Uber and Apollo Go mobile apps.

In a social media post, the RTA said, “Your next ride could be autonomous, and it’s currently free,” encouraging residents to experience the driverless technology for themselves.

The public launch follows Dubai’s announcement earlier this year of the commercial rollout of autonomous taxis, with the initial phase introducing 100 driverless vehicles into the emirate’s transport network.

The autonomous taxi fleet is expected to grow gradually in the coming years, responding to rising demand for smart mobility solutions and supporting Dubai’s wider vision for expanding autonomous transport.

The initiative aligns with the Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to speed up the adoption of autonomous mobility technologies across the emirate.

The RTA said the rollout further reinforces Dubai’s status as a global hub for autonomous driving innovation, backed by advanced infrastructure, a supportive regulatory environment and smart transport systems built to support future mobility.
