New themed recycling bins bring a playful approach to sustainability across Dubai’s media hub.

Dubai: Cartoon Network MENA has joined forces with Dubai Media City to encourage recycling across the community, adding a colourful animated touch to the sustainability drive. As part of the collaboration, Cartoon Network-themed recycling bins have been placed throughout the district under the network’s ongoing Climate Champions initiative, which aims to make environmentally responsible habits more engaging and accessible.
Making recycling more engaging
While many recycling campaigns rely heavily on statistics and environmental warnings, this initiative takes a more creative approach. Featuring familiar Cartoon Network characters, the brightly designed bins use nostalgia and visual appeal to encourage people to think differently about their everyday recycling habits.
The interactive bins are intended to catch the attention of professionals, residents and visitors moving through Dubai Media City, encouraging them to stop, engage and recycle rather than simply walk past. The initiative reflects Cartoon Network’s wider approach of using its popular characters to introduce broader conversations around sustainability and the role individuals can play through everyday actions such as responsible waste disposal.
Rethinking what can be recycled
Beyond introducing the themed bins, the campaign also aims to expand awareness of the range of everyday items that can be recycled. Batteries, electronic devices and stationery are among the materials being highlighted, as many people may not immediately consider them recyclable despite their widespread use in homes and workplaces.
The message is particularly relevant in Dubai Media City, where thousands of creative professionals work each day and regularly use items such as chargers, batteries and notebooks. Without greater awareness and convenient recycling options, many of these products can end up in general waste instead of being directed into appropriate recycling streams.
Aya Hammad, Marketing, PR and Digital Manager at Warner Bros Discovery MENA, said the initiative builds on the strong emotional connection audiences have with Cartoon Network’s characters. She explained that storytelling can help translate environmental awareness into everyday action, with the campaign designed to make recycling feel “positive, fun, and impactful” rather than burdensome.
Instead of presenting recycling simply as a responsibility, the initiative emphasises how small and consistent actions can make a difference over time. Simple steps, such as placing a bottle in the correct bin or recycling an old phone charger, can gradually become part of everyday routines.
The campaign therefore focuses not only on raising awareness but also on encouraging lasting habits that make responsible waste disposal a more natural part of daily life.
