Abu Dhabi Judicial Department issues warning to the public about online ticket fraud schemes.
Dubai: An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a seller to pay Dh10,000 in compensation for defrauding a buyer with fake Formula 1 tickets bought through Instagram.
The Abu Dhabi Civil, Family, and Administrative Court also ruled that the defendant must return Dh6,000 to the buyer, who had paid the amount via bank transfer before realizing the tickets were fake.
Court documents show that the victim filed a civil case seeking reimbursement and damages after the seller ignored requests for a refund, Al Khaleej reported.
A previous criminal ruling had already convicted the defendant in absentia, sentencing him to three months in prison, a Dh20,000 fine, and deportation.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department has cautioned the public against buying event tickets through social media, highlighting a rise in fraud cases involving fake listings and discounted offers.
