A new law on national safety has been approved in the UAE, with jail sentences of up to six months and fines of at least Dh100,000 to be handed out to those who break it.

The UAE Public Prosecution says the law is for all emergencies, crises and disasters in accordance with regulations laid out by the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA).

The law has been implemented as part of the Stay Home initiative designed to ensure the transmission of the coronavirus.
