Sharjah’s Smart Surveillance Foils Lorry Driver’s Attempt to Conceal Number Plate.

Sharjah: Sharjah Police have apprehended a lorry driver who deliberately covered his vehicle’s registration plate with mud in an attempt to hide its details and evade traffic monitoring systems.

The driver was identified through Sharjah Police’s advanced traffic surveillance network, which spans the emirate and uses cameras, monitoring systems and digital technologies to track vehicles.

The system detected and followed the lorry, enabling specialist teams to conduct searches and field operations that led to the vehicle being identified and the driver arrested.

Police said their investigation found that the driver had intentionally obscured the number plate to enter roads where lorries are prohibited.

The vehicle and its driver were subsequently dealt with in accordance with applicable legal procedures.

Sharjah Police warned that attempts to obscure or conceal vehicle number plates, or circumvent traffic enforcement systems, would not prevent authorities from detecting violations and identifying offenders, thanks to the emirate’s advanced surveillance network.

The force said it would continue to monitor roads across Sharjah and take firm action against behaviour that could compromise road safety.

It urged motorists, particularly heavy-vehicle drivers, to follow designated routes, timings and roads and comply with traffic laws and regulations. Police said adherence to these rules helps reduce traffic violations and accidents while protecting all road users.
