Date:

A complete guide for parents to the three-week winter break, holiday schedule and school reopening dates.

Dubai: As the current school term approaches its end, parents across the UAE may already be making plans for the winter holidays and preparing for the start of the new academic term.

During the 2026–2027 academic year, students across the UAE are scheduled to enjoy a three-week winter break before returning to school in January.

But will all schools follow the same holiday dates? Here is a closer look at the winter break schedule across the country.

UAE school winter break 2026–2027: Important dates

  • Last day of school: Friday, December 11, 2026
  • Winter holidays begin: Monday, December 14, 2026
  • Winter holidays end: Sunday, January 3, 2027
  • First day back at school: Monday, January 4, 2027

The three-week break includes weekends, giving students time off before the start of the second academic term.

Dubai private schools: KHDA winter holiday schedule

Private schools in Dubai operate under the supervision of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which sets academic calendar requirements for schools across the emirate.

For schools following the September-start academic calendar, the winter break will run from December 14, 2026, to January 3, 2027. Classes are scheduled to resume on January 4, 2027.

However, parents should check their children’s school-approved calendar, particularly if they attend institutions following an April-start academic year.

Sharjah private schools: SPEA winter holiday schedule

Private schools in Sharjah are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA).

Under the September-start academic calendar for 2026–2027, the winter holidays are scheduled to begin on December 14, with students expected to return to classrooms on January 4, 2027.

Parents should consult their respective schools for any specific arrangements or changes to the published calendar.

UAE Ministry of Education schools: Winter holiday schedule

Public schools across the UAE follow the academic calendar issued by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

According to the 2026–2027 calendar, the winter break will begin on Monday, December 14, and continue until Sunday, January 3, 2027.

Students are scheduled to return on Monday, January 4, marking the beginning of the second academic term.

Do all UAE schools follow the same winter break dates?

While the December 14 to January 3 break applies to schools following the standard September-start academic calendar, some private institutions operate on different academic schedules.

This is especially relevant for schools that follow an April-start academic year, as their term dates and holiday periods may vary.

Parents are advised to check their child’s school calendar before making travel arrangements or finalising holiday bookings.
