Taxis, Buses and Marine Transport Drive Sharjah’s Holiday Travel Surge.
Sharjah’s transport network handled millions of passenger journeys during the 2026 summer holiday period, highlighting strong demand for public and shared mobility services across the emirate, according to the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA).
From June to August, more than 6.6 million taxi trips were recorded across Sharjah, while intercity and public bus networks also carried substantial numbers of passengers during the busy summer travel period.
More than 2.4 million bus passengers
Intercity and public bus services transported more than 2.4 million passengers over the three-month period, reflecting continued demand for bus travel across Sharjah and beyond.
The figures highlight the continued reliance on a range of transport services by residents and visitors travelling within Sharjah and to destinations outside the emirate.
Marine transport carries 12,240 passengers
Sharjah’s marine transport network also saw steady activity during the summer months, operating 756 trips and carrying a total of 12,240 passengers.
The figures demonstrate how different modes of public transport contribute to keeping residents and visitors connected while supporting mobility across the emirate.
Focus on family-friendly transport
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority said it remains committed to developing safe, flexible and sustainable transport services, with particular emphasis on enhancing comfort and safety for families.
Its initiatives also seek to broaden mobility choices, improve traffic movement and contribute to a better quality of life, in line with the objectives of the Year of the Family 2026.
The authority said these efforts form part of its broader plans to improve the overall transport experience and provide more convenient journeys for residents and visitors across Sharjah.
