Airline Welcomes 11 MAX Jets in 2026 and Boosts Overhead Baggage CapacityDubai: flydubai passengers can expect more lie-flat Business Class seats and increased overhead storage on select Boeing 737 MAX aircraft as part of a cabin upgrade programme launching in September.
The Dubai-based airline plans to retrofit 21 aircraft currently equipped with recliner-style Business Class seats over the next 12 months, replacing them with flydubai’s lie-flat Business Class seating.
As part of the upgrade, the existing overhead compartments will also be replaced with larger Boeing Space Bins. The new bins can accommodate up to six standard-sized cabin bags, compared with around four in conventional overhead storage.
The cabin upgrades coincide with flydubai’s continued fleet expansion, as the Dubai-based carrier prepares to take delivery of 11 additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2026, pushing its total fleet beyond the 100-aircraft mark.
11 More Aircraft Joining in 2026
The new deliveries will include seven Boeing 737-9 MAX jets and four Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, further strengthening flydubai’s growing fleet.
flydubai said the incoming aircraft are part of its broader long-term fleet modernisation strategy, aimed at replacing older jets while providing additional capacity to grow its network and increase seat availability on high-demand routes.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said the airline’s investment extends beyond adding new aircraft. He highlighted the carrier’s continued focus on upgrading its existing fleet to provide passengers with a more consistent and improved travel experience. According to Al Ghaith, the latest retrofit programme represents another major investment in flydubai’s onboard product and reinforces its commitment to enhancing the passenger experience.
More Business Class Seats on the 737-9 MAX
flydubai’s Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft feature a two-class configuration, offering 16 Business Class seats alongside 156 Economy Class seats.
By comparison, some of the airline’s Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft are currently configured with 10 Business Class seats.
The increase in premium seating will give flydubai greater flexibility to meet rising Business Class demand on major international routes, while also allowing the carrier to offer more premium seats across its existing network.
Bigger Overhead Bins Across MAX Fleet
Alongside the Business Class improvements, flydubai’s cabin retrofit programme, which begins in September, will expand overhead storage capacity for passengers across the upgraded Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Boeing’s Space Bins can accommodate up to six standard-sized cabin bags, compared with around four in traditional overhead compartments. The larger bins will provide passengers with additional space for carry-on luggage while improving overall storage capacity and helping make the boarding process more efficient.
The latest upgrade programme builds on flydubai’s earlier multimillion-dollar refurbishment of its Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 fleet. That initiative introduced lie-flat Business Class seating, refreshed Economy Class seats and an upgraded inflight entertainment experience.
