Heavy traffic hits Dubai-Sharjah roads, with E11 and E311 seeing major morning rush delays.
Dubai: Commuters travelling between Sharjah and Dubai faced a difficult Thursday morning rush on August 20, with heavy congestion reported on E11 and E311, along with several bottlenecks on roads feeding into the main highways.
One of the worst-affected stretches was E11/Al Ittihad Road heading from Sharjah towards Dubai. Google Maps traffic data showed extensive dark-red congestion from around Al Majaz and Al Khan towards Al Taawun, Sahara Centre and Al Nahda, indicating slow-moving traffic along the key Dubai-bound corridor.
Conditions were particularly difficult near the Dubai-Sharjah border, while connecting routes through Al Nahda and Al Qusais showed a mix of red and amber traffic. Several smaller roads remained relatively clear, suggesting the congestion was concentrated around major junctions and highway approaches rather than affecting the entire area.

Central Sharjah offered some relief, with roads around Al Fayha, Kuwait Square and Al Mahatta largely flowing. Short red sections appeared near major roundabouts and junctions, while E88 was considerably clearer than the main Dubai-bound routes.
Further into Dubai, traffic conditions were mixed. Congestion was visible around D69 near Al Quoz and Business Bay, while roads around Dubai Creek, Festival City and parts of E11 were mostly moving freely. Short queues were also reported around Oud Metha and connecting roads.
Weather conditions may have added to the challenges for early commuters. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued red and yellow fog alerts on August 20, warning of visibility dropping below 1,000 metres in affected areas until 8.30am.
Overall, the heaviest congestion for Dubai-bound commuters was concentrated along E11 around Al Khan, Al Taawun, Sahara Centre and Al Nahda, as well as E311 through Sharjah’s industrial areas and Muwaileh. Drivers were advised to allow extra travel time and check live navigation updates before setting out.
