The Ramayana trailer dropped in the early hours, unveiling the first glimpse of the epic saga.
The wait is finally over. After months of anticipation, teasers and speculation, the world of Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ has been unveiled, bringing the first glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ram.
Released in the early hours, the trailer first introduces Yash’s Ravana, setting up a world shaped by power, ambition and fear before Ram’s arrival begins to change its course.
The trailer opens with Ravana’s dramatic entrance as he approaches a palace door and declares the start of his reign, immediately establishing him as the force opposing everything Ram stands for.
As darkness spreads across kingdoms, Ranbir Kapoor’s Prince Ram is introduced as a figure destined to rise when the world needs him most. The glimpse portrays Ram embracing a greater purpose—protecting his people and confronting the forces threatening peace and balance.
The trailer also offers audiences their first extended glimpse of Sai Pallavi as Sita, bringing another key character into the epic narrative. It also introduces Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Ram’s devoted brother and companion, as the two prepare to face the trials ahead.
Unlike the earlier teaser, which received criticism from some viewers over its visual effects, the new trailer focuses on scale, atmosphere and detailed world-building. Rather than relying only on mythical imagery and grand spectacle, it highlights the contrasting worlds of Ayodhya and Lanka, while bringing greater attention to the emotional depth and personal stakes driving the conflict.
However, the trailer does not feature Sunny Deol’s Hanuman, suggesting that the makers may be holding back the character’s introduction for a future reveal or the film’s second instalment.
Adding to the scale of the project is its music, which brings together Oscar-winning composers A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The film’s visual effects are being handled by DNEG, known for its work on major international productions.
The project has also marked a significant milestone in the music industry, with T-Series reportedly acquiring the music rights for both parts of ‘Ramayana’ in a Rs 75 crore deal with producer Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios.
Based on Valmiki’s ancient epic, Ramayana follows Ram’s journey from exile to his battle against Ravana following Sita’s abduction. With the story having been retold across generations in countless forms, the film’s biggest challenge may be finding a fresh and compelling way to bring this timeless epic to a new audience.
