Convective clouds, dusty winds and temperatures reaching 48°C expected across the UAE.
Dubai: The UAE is set for fair to partly cloudy conditions today, with the possibility of afternoon convective cloud formation bringing rain to parts of the eastern and western regions, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
Winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the south-east to north-east at 10–25 km/h, and may strengthen at times, reaching up to 45 km/h inland and 35 km/h in coastal and mountainous areas. Strong gusts linked to cloud activity could stir up dust and sand, leading to reduced visibility in some locations.
Temperatures are expected to range between 43°C and 48°C in inland areas, while coastal and inland regions will see highs of 38°C to 44°C. Mountain areas will be comparatively cooler, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 38°C.
Sea conditions will remain slight in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. The weather pattern is being influenced by an extension of a surface low-pressure system from the east, along with an upper-air low-pressure system, creating favourable conditions for the development of convective clouds.
The unsettled weather conditions are expected to continue through the weekend and into the start of next week.
On Friday, afternoon convective clouds are forecast to form over eastern and southern areas, with a possibility of rainfall in some locations. Winds from the south-east to north-east will strengthen at times, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h, while sea conditions are expected to remain slight.
Saturday is expected to be fair to partly cloudy, with cloud formation developing over eastern and southern regions in the afternoon. Winds will shift from south-easterly to north-westerly, blowing at 10–20 km/h and reaching up to 30 km/h at times. Sea conditions will remain slight.
Similar weather conditions are forecast for Sunday, with afternoon convective clouds likely to form over eastern and southern areas. Winds will begin from the south-east before turning north-westerly, reaching speeds of up to 30 km/h, while seas remain slight.
On Monday, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) expects another possibility of afternoon convective clouds over eastern and southern regions, with a chance of rainfall. South-easterly to north-easterly winds may strengthen to 40 km/h, potentially stirring up dust in exposed areas. Sea conditions are forecast to remain slight.
