Defence Ministry intercepts drones targeting key petroleum facilities.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said its air defences intercepted and destroyed several drones over the past few hours that were targeting petroleum facilities in the Eastern Region, according to a statement issued on 28 July 2026.

Ministry spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said the attacks were launched from Iraqi territory by Iran-affiliated militias, describing them as “terrorist attempts” targeting the Kingdom’s critical infrastructure. He affirmed Saudi Arabia’s legitimate right to defend its territory and capabilities, adding that the Kingdom reserves the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing.
