Embassy continues to monitor situation, provides support to injured crew and families of deceased seafarer.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE has confirmed the death of an Indian seafarer following missile attacks on two vessels, Al Bahiyah and Mombasa B, in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We express our condolences over the tragic loss of an Indian seafarer in the attacks on the two vessels, Al Bahiyah and Mombasa B. We are closely monitoring developments and coordinating with local authorities to provide all possible assistance to the injured crew members and the affected families,” the embassy said.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said two UAE-flagged tankers were targeted by Iranian cruise missiles while transiting the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters.

The attacks resulted in the death of one Indian crew member and injuries to eight others, including four who sustained serious injuries, according to the ministry.

The missile strikes triggered fires on both vessels and caused damage, though the blazes were later brought under control, according to the UAE Ministry of Defence.

The ministry condemned the attacks as a “grave violation” of international law, warning that such incidents threaten regional security and stability.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions following renewed US strikes on Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, has become a major flashpoint as the conflict continues to escalate.
