The railway will span 238 km when completed, creating a vital transport link between the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Forty per cent of the UAE-Oman rail project Hafeet Rail has been completed, Etihad Rail announced on Tuesday, April 21.
The joint venture between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala) will span 238 km when completed, forming a vital link between the two Gulf countries.
With 60 bridges — some rising up to 34 metres in height — and tunnels stretching a total of 2.5 kilometres, Hafeet Rail will connect five major ports along with multiple industrial and free zones across the two countries.
According to Etihad Rail, more than 27 million cubic metres of earthworks have been completed so far for the network, along with an impressive 10 million safe man-hours achieved without any major injuries.
Where does the rail go?
Work on Hafeet Rail is currently underway across several key locations along the route, including:
- Al Ain region (near the Oman border)
- Al Buraimi (close to the UAE border)
- Sohar on Oman’s east coast
- Wadi Al Jizzi near Sohar
This landmark project is expected to support trade flows, strengthen supply chain resilience, and deepen economic integration between the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
The name pays tribute to Jebel Hafeet, which holds both historical importance and strategic significance for the two countries.
